The
Youth Center for Europe and International Relations is
an initiative of a small group of young people from
different countries of the Union aimed at creating a
platform for working on the European construction and
for spreading ideas and analysis of the problems that
affect both the European and the world society as a
whole. This initiative is special because of its young
and common dimension which transgresses national
boundaries and explores the European conscience.
We
believe in Europe. We strongly believe that the Union
represents a clear success of conflict resolution, of
peaceful communion, democracy, security and regional
stability which is unique in the world in its extent
and complexity. However, as is the case for any super-structure,
it is confronts with problems both of shape and of
content which we must face and solve. One of those
problems is the limited room in the decision making
process for the citizens’ opinion in general and for
that of the young in particular, a situation resulting
in the so called “democratic deficit”.
This is why
we decided to make use of all the means made available
to us by the information society and by the new
technologies and thereby to act through the
cooperation among young and motivated people coming
from all the countries of Europe. We are counting on
the civil society and on its potential for change and
therefore we decided to create an association which is
open to the collaboration of the citizens and which is
focused on bringing information, training and new
ideas in order to continue building and improving our
society, to counter by thought and action the global
problems of the XXI-st century and finally to keep on
walking on the road of the impossible dream envisaged
by the founding fathers of the Union more than 50
years ago.
