The main objective of YATA was defined as creating and strengthening the dialogue and understanding between the youth of NATO member countries, PfP countries and the observer countries.

More specifically, YATA will work for the creation of national youth organizations in the ATA countries missing them, for the expansion of youth involvement to promote increased regional cooperation, and to facilitate the contact and dialogue between its national affiliates.

YATA is today composed of nearly 30 national youth chapters, and is one of the strongest and most influential youth NGO networks in the world. Aside from all of the activities organized by the national chapters, YATA has (since 2002) created a web page, developed two internet forums for debate and information exchange, and organized several regional and international conferences. YATA members have been engaged in dialogue with the decision-makers of the world, including George W. Bush, Colin Powel, Gerhard Schröder, Tayyp Erdogan, and many more. In this sense, YATA has been playing its role as the Voice of the Civil Society. This is largely based on the philosophy that the development of world politics should not only be up to the governments and diplomatic elite, but should also involve the civil society.

Under the guidance of Jacques Delors who created Notre Europe in 1996, the association hopes to “think a united Europe,” in other words, to contribute to a closer union of the peoples of Europe,as explained in our Charter. The association participates in current debates, with positions informed through detailed policy analysis and concrete policy proposals.

In this vein, the staff of Notre Europe directs research projects; produces and disseminates analyses in the form of short notes, studies, and articles; and organises public debates and seminars. The president and the Board take positions on issues judged to be vital to the future of the Union.
